Another tidbit Charlotte was cast in a nw project called Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell sounds like an inresting project.
Eddie Marsan and Bertie Carvel are to star in the BBC's forthcoming adaptation of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell...
The BBC adaptation of Susanna Clarke's tremendous Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, announced just under a year ago, is pressing ahead, with two very fine actors cast in the lead roles. Eddie Marsan is to play the enigmatic Mr Norrell, with Bertie Carvel as the titular Jonathan Strange.
Marsan, whom US audiences may have recently seen on Ray Donovan, will need no introduction from us, save a reminder that he's one of the UK's finest. Bertie Carvel's name may be less familiar, but to anyone who's seen his terrific performance in Matilda the Musical, is no less cause for celebration. Granted, we had Damien Lewis and Derek Jacobi on our wishlist for the roles, but Carvel and Marsan are exciting choices.
Joining the central pair are Paul Kaye, Alice Englert, Marc Warren, Samuel West, Charlotte Riley, and Enzo Cilenti. Doctor Who's Toby Haynes is directing from a script by Wallander's Peter Harness. Filming is set to begin next week in Yorkshire, Canada and Croatia.
For those unfamiliar with the story, it's a deeply atmospheric tale of magic and rivalry in historical England, and it comes heartily recommended by us. We'll keep you posted on the adaptation as more news arrives.
